The mid-20th century saw much growth with new homes, industry, high-rise buildings, restaurants, shopping malls, resorts and a harbor. Two naval bases, Port Hueneme and Point Mugu were established nearby. Growth in the area continues today with more high-end housing project being completed.

Oxnard is home to several historic sites and museums. Several movies have been filmed in the area. The Oxnard airport has commuter flights serving Los Angeles International airport.
